Irfanul (Irfan) Alam

Irfanul (Irfan) Alam is an Evaluation Associate at CERE who focuses on higher education projects. Born and raised in Bangladesh, Irfan came to the United States to pursue higher education. He earned his undergraduate (Cellular and Molecular Biology) and master’s (General Biology) degrees in Michigan and later completed a Ph.D. in Biology Education at the University of Colorado Boulder. He now calls Oxford home and continues his work in evaluation and education.

Irfan’s academic journey has been shaped by his curiosity about the intersection of science and education. Transitioning from working in wet labs to teaching undergraduates, he developed a strong interest in understanding human behavior and learning. His doctoral research focused on assessing scientific civic engagement in STEM classrooms, combining his passion for science with his dedication to education.
While at CU Boulder, Irfan discovered his enthusiasm for program evaluation, working on projects as an assistant and a lead evaluator. At CERE, he’s now dedicated to improving educational programs and outcomes by applying his expertise in undergraduate STEM education, psychometrics, qualitative analyses, and survey methodology. With his multicultural background and career spanning multiple states, Irfan brings a unique perspective to his work and is passionate about creating meaningful change in education.
